60 students plant their seedlings in the garden!

June 5, 2007

Yep, you read correctly! 60 students and their teachers from the FACE school came to the McGill garden to plant their seedlings that we helped them start in their classrooms in April. We had fun despite the springtime rain!

The Roulant garden moves to McGill University's downtown campus!

Thanks to the participation of about 30 brave urban gardeners, the Roulant garden moved roofs to find a new home in the downtown campus of McGill University. In partnership with McGill's school of architecture, the Rooftop Garden Project is exploring new ways to make paved urban spaces more productive. Hope to see you there!

The Rooftop Gardens Project takes Victoria!

Hello rooftop community!

After spending a wonderful summer gardening on the rooftops of Montreal, I’m back to my everyday ground-level life in Victoria, BC. The summer I spent working with the Rooftop Gardens Project was one of the most fun and inspiring I’ve ever spent, and I was so happy to share it with all of you. I must say I miss Montreal, but it seems that the magic of the rooftop garden project continues to follow me all the way across the country!

Gardening with Mr. Bouchard, my new friend.

I (along with Mark and Erin) have had the privilege this season to help Mr. Bouchard set up his own balcony garden. Little did we know how much we'd be learning from him!

He has been gardening since he was seven years old, making it 80 years of gardening experience! This is the first year, though, that he hasn't been able to make the long trek to the garden behind his apartment building and work the earth as he's been doing for so many years. Having a Ready-to-Grow kit on his own balcony has given him a way to continue gardening, but not have to worry about falling on his way there or deal with the difficulties of bending over, which gardening in the soil requires.
